Description
attle (or auto-battle) your way through castles, temples, dungeons, and deserts scattered across the fictional realm of Teleria from the comfort of your mobile device. Or rather not! This is one of the few games that offer a close-to-AAA experience on mobile in many respects, but especially in the graphics department. It's a moving piece of art. Especially on a good 1440p display, it looks absolutely gorgeous! Animations, characters, and scenarios are incredibly well designed and the battles are visually uplifting. This is coupled with an excellent epic soundtrack that should keep you motivated to overcome the challenges ahead. The battles are another thing to praise (albeit slightly so). There is a myriad of ways to tackle them: You can choose from low- to high-level champions in your team, and you may try your luck with different combinations. The story is nothing to write home about. It's your typical cliched high-fantasy tale of a demon subjugating a realm. I didn't really pay much attention to the story, but it does give some flavor to your gameplay and sets the stage nicely. You may have noticed that I started focusing on the positive aspects of this game, and I may have actually overhyped it a bit. Unfortunately, the rest of this review promises to be a rant marathon (or rantathon) that could potentially deter you from even so much as installing it. Thing is, this game is designed to milk money from you in the most apparent way conceivable. Don't be deceived by the technical qualities and the eye candy. All of that is to lure you to spend your hard-earned money. You may be asking: Is this not what games are specifically designed for? Well, yes, that's definitely true, but my major beef is the manner by which this is achieved. To elaborate on the point I just brought up, developers traditionally charged money upfront to people wishing to enjoy their products. You pay the price they ask for and, from that moment on, you're free to play the game as you wish (or, at least, ideally so). Many modern games will also charge you for essential features even as you already paid full price, but I digress. I have nothing against developers earning money. They should, in fact, be paid what is due to them, and piracy is not something I would ever support. With that said, there are honest and dishonest types of monetization. Dishonest forms of monetization, in my view, include intrusive ads or the addition of pay-to-win mechanics to make the game slightly possible to complete within a reasonable timeframe. This game, unluckily, falls for the latter. You could, in theory, finish the game without paying a dime. But, trust me when I say that the grinding gets obnoxious, to the point where your chances of success are incredibly low and your characters and equipment will remain within the lowest levels unless you provide your credit card number, expiration date, and CVC. By the way, you'll also need to pay to unlock competitive multiplayer. And then there are the microtransaction popups. Why do Plarium Games (the dev) feel the urge to literally bombard me with offers every time I boot up the game? One popup is enough to make me not want to play a game anymore, but this game didn't find one popup to be enough. I'm not exaggerating when I say that, at one point, I had to close up to seven (!) windows polluted with microtransaction garbage. Allow that to sink in! There is yet another major (and I mean M-A-J-O-R) complaint about this game, but I'll explain it in more detail in the following section, which is just below this line.
